Boston University needed a pair of modern digital publication logos—one for BU Today, its flagship news source, and one for The Brink, its research and innovation platform. Both needed to feel bold, contemporary, and distinctly BU, while also pairing seamlessly with Bostonia, the long-established alumni magazine.
As Associate Creative Director at BU, I led the creative process from concept to final design. The challenge was to create a cohesive publication family system that could live powerfully across digital, print, video, and social—while still letting each publication express its own voice.
The Challenge
BU Today’s old brand lacked personality and didn’t reflect the energy of the BU community—its people, culture, and big ideas.
The Brink needed a sharper identity to represent cutting-edge research breakthroughs, scientific storytelling, and global impact.
The logos had to pair visually with Bostonia’s refreshed identity without mimicking it.
All three had to work within BU’s evolving digital ecosystem, from responsive layouts to cross-publication navigation.
My Role
As the creative lead responsible for the identity work, I:
Developed the visual strategy for the publications as a unified system.
Designed and refined logo concepts rooted in BU’s iconic typography and bold character.
Worked closely with editorial leadership, marketing, and digital teams to ensure the marks supported content goals.
Created scalable, production-ready identity assets for use across web, social, and marketing channels.
